Commissioner Rebeca Sosa visited Bascom Palmer Eye Institute today to recognize the incredible efforts of the doctors and nonprofit organizations responsible for the life-changing surgery that restored the sight and hearing of 2-year-old Nicolly Pereira at Bascom Palmer.

Nicolly was born blind and deaf. Bascom Palmer’s Dr. Alana Grajewski performed the surgery that allowed her to see her mother for the first time and Dr. Ramzi Younis performed the treatment to restore her hearing- something that her doctors in Brazil had been unable to do.

Commissioner Sosa also recognized the IKF’s Wonderfund and the Kevin Garcia Foundation- the organizations that made Nicolly’s journey here possible.

Thank you to the team of UHealth doctors and organizations responsible for Nicolly’s transformative surgery.
